    Default 10/22 help

So, I have a cheap ( i mean cheap paid 100 for it) old 10/22 that I used for appleseed last year that I am trying to fix up a bit more for supressor use. It has tech sights but I had to use JB weld on the front sight because it came loose on the first day of appleseed. It has wood stock with my own front sling swivle attached, it has the barrel band and stock triger pack and mag release. I am just un sure which direction to go. Should I get a whole new barrel and ditch the sights, should I fix up the current barrel with threading. What do you guys think?

Get a quality barrel and put a Red dot or suitable optic on it. If you want to upgrade the trigger, there are a bunch of quality companies that will take your stock trigger on trade for a good to excellent trigger. Usually about $50 to $100 all said and done for the trigger.

Threaded barrels will run from $100 to $300. Most shops are going to charge you from $70 to $100 to thread the facotry barrel.

TacticalInc.com had threaded barrels for $125.00 but their out of stock right now. But most of the threaded barrels are not set up for iron sights.

I like the Tactical Solutions barrels, but they are on the expensive side. Light as hell and accurate.

Buy a new threaded barrel if you have any mechanical skills you can do the trigger yourself

All of the threaded barrels I have found have been bull barrels which means a new stock which pushes me up to spending 400 bucks ish on a 100 dollar rifle then I still need an optic. I am just having a hard time with that.

One of my original plans was the Troy t-22 chassis and at tac-sol barrel but that is about $500 total. On the plus side the AR style BUIS will work fine for me until i get another optic.

And most of the threaded barrels are out of stock right now!

Gun builds take time when you have specific design criteria. Common gun build parts like you are talking about here means there are more options, but a lot more people doing the same thing. Be patient, get the critical parts (like the barrel) when they become available. Some times, it pays to contact the distributor and see if you can get on a waiting list for the part.

A stock change for this build may very well be a requirement. It's just part of the gun build decision making process.

My last gun build (a 308) took me about 6 months, and I basically got all the parts from one location at the same time. Custom builds take time and money, some more so than others.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Houge stocks are like $80. An ER Shaw threaded bull barrel is $105. A Bushnell red dot is $80. That is $265 total. Spending more than about $350 on a stock 10/22 is a waste. For about $500, you can buy ALL of the parts, much better quality, and build a brand new tricked out 10/22 with many upgrades. You can buy a receiver and used parts and build a complete 10/22 for under $400 every day of the year.

I've built two from parts in the last 2 months, neither one took more than an hour to build.

That or buy a Fedderson for $465 http://www.1022rifle.com/rifle-ruger or a Magnum Research for $550 (street) http://www.magnumresearch.com/Firear...lded-Rifle.asp and sell the old 10/22 for $100 if you don't want it anymore.

Any thought on the NoDak Spud NDS-23 bull barrel front sight with a hogue stock and the ER shaw threaded bull barrel. That should keep me with the iron sights.

Never tried them, but KNS makes quality stuff, so you should be good to go with that set-up.
