As I understood it back in October, the delay was due to building permits. They changed the design later in the game and had to get the permits approved to continue construction. They got the approval and as mentioned are waiting to resume construction once the weather breaks.

I was out at Colorado Clays a couple weeks ago for a trap shoot, and asked the pistol and rifle ranges. They said as soon as the weather warms up (no chance of freezing) they'll finish the ranges.

I'm also a member of WHAC but it took me almost 2 years to become a member because the waiting list is long and I would have to assume its even longer now. But I do know some super secret spots east of brighton if you drive the backroads long enough you might find them. Also there was talk of Colorado clays opening a pistol and rifle range but I haven't heard anything, you might give them a call.

Join CRC. No waiting list. CHEAP as hell. The best facility I've ever been at, as well.

It's in Byers. If you're east of Denver at all and not far from 70, it'll take you a little under an hour to get there. Worth it.
    Keep Calm and Carry.

Those "super secret spots" are owned by someone out here, that might not appreciate your not asking.?????

I am the range manager at WHAC and we have stopped adding names to the waiting list because it has become waaaaaayyyyy too long. Hopefully Doug from Colorado Clays will complete his pistol and rifle ranges soon because we are in desperate need of more shooting areas. Last time I spoke with him (about two weeks ago) he said that he was hoping to have the ranges in operation by the end of this Summer.

Have you looked at the Golden Gun Club in Watkins? That's dang close to DIA--in the flightline, actually

I know this is an older thread, but I visited Colorado Clays last weekend after seeing their booth at the Outdoor Expo and speaking with the owners for a few minutes. Their 100 yd rifle range is completed and it is pretty nice. They offer a covered shooting area with a space heater above each bay for those cold days and it is semi-enclosed. They have a video target viewing system. It's $20 per hour and you can take as many rifles as you want as well as switch over to the 25 yd pistol range with auto retrieval system. They told me that as long as there is no line, you can stay longer. I know they weren't clock watching last weekend because I was setting up a scope and stayed for over 90 minutes and used both the pistol and rifle areas. First target is free and then they charge $1 per additional target, or you can bring your own and they will put it up for you. The RO will meet you outside and check your ammo (no steel ammo allowed), and go over the rules and they we're actually quite friendly during my first visit. While I was there, I think the most rifle bays being used at any one time was four or five, so it wasn't too busy. The pistol range was a tad busier, probably had 6-8 bays being used at its peak.

Also, they will let you keep your brass, but a lot of it does tend to go beyond the red line, so I'm going to get a brass catcher for my next trip. They sell surplus brass for $5 per 105 of .223 and $10 per 105 of .308 and you can go through the bins and pick out what you want if you want to take the time. They had other calibers, but I didn't check the pricing.

All in all, it was a good experience and I will be going back for sure!
