Default Places to shoot near Idaho springs or Bailey?

I'm looking for somewhere in the national forest that is accessible on the roads during the winter. I am unfamiliar with these areas but live quite close to them and it would be nice o have a place to shoot without spending money at the range. If anyone could help me out or give me advice on where I might find a good spot please let me know!

    Thanks

We occasionally shoot off of Hwy 103. Up towards Warrior Mtn, Chief Mtn or Squaw Mtn. Accessibility isn't great in the wintertime unless you're willing to walk a bit. I don't know how much snow is up there right now.

Thanks for the tips. I was hoping to go up this week but that might not happen if this snow keeps up. Bummer!

Is this that little pull-out on the North (West) side of 103 between echo lake park and warrior mtn? How much space is there? What kind of backstop? Feels pretty close to the road, but the rangers said it was OK. I've never shot there myself, though.

Yeah. Drive off road a couple miles. You'll get to a clearing with good backstop. Never had a problem shooting there.
