    Default Engraving serial numbers

I'm confused by this...in my form 1 instructions it says: if an existing firearm is being modified into an NFA firearm, enter the existing serial number and the address of the original manuf. If the NFA firearm is being made from parts, enter my name and address.

...now doesn't this mean if I am registering my existing serialed firearm that was manufactured by doublestar, I don't need to have anything engraved on it because I wasn't the one who manufactured it, just the one registering it? I've been told I will need to engrave my lower with my name and address because I will be the manufacturer when I SBR it. I don't understand.

You WILL have to engrave your info since you are the maker of the NFA firearm. DoubleStar made the lower, yes, but you are making the NFA firearm by adding a SBR upper to it. The title of the Form 1 IS "Application to Make and Register a Firearm" and the lower will go into the ATF's records as a registered SBR now, with you as the maker.

You can always call them to double-check (304-616-4500), but I'm 99% sure on this one.

I will call and ask. I guess my confusion comes from them distingushing a difference between "modifying" a firearm and "making" one on the form 1 instructions.
