Birddog1911,
Saw some pics of your work. Looks Great! Would you have any advice for a rattle can do it your selfer?
First thing that I would need to say is that it is for a WASR-10 that I recieved in a raffle. Therefore, I'm looking to do it cheap. My current plan will be as follows.
1. take it apart and degrease it,clean the heck out of it. (I've read that acetone, brake cleaner, etc. are good options)
2. Use high heat paint. Maybe even ceramic engine paint.
3. Bake it. I've heard anywhere from 200deg. to 400deg. for around an hour.
4. clear coat with a matte or flat finish.
5 put it all back together.
I've already taken all the wood furniture off of it and I stripped and restained it with gray transparent stain. It looks pretty cool. Gray in spots with natural tans and browns from the wood grain. I may end up painting over it but I'm gonna try to create a patern that matches on all the metal. I have all of $5.00 into the project and want to keep cost low. I know that duracoat is a great option but like I said it's for a WASR-10 that I recieved for the $20.00 in raffle tickets that I bought. I've seen and read alot about getting a pretty good paint job for less than what duracoat costs. Let me know what you think of my plan.
Thanks a ton!
