Spend some time processing a 5 gallon bucket of 223 brass. He had tumbled it clean and sorted out all the non 223, or so he thought....

Turned out there was some mixed cats and dogs like 9mm and 308 in there. They easily get sorted out when roll sizing and dont break anything. It just takes time to clear the jam.

But when a case that has a bullet rolling around inside makes it to my automated Dillon 1100, bad things happen. Like broken decapping pins/dies.

Luckily I had another toolhead with an FW Arms universal decapper so I was able to finish up, but the damaged decapper was a total loss.

The silver lining in all this was that FW Arms has a new decapper out. I set it up and ran a bunch of GI 5.56 brass through today and it worked better than the old version. No primer pullback and the random bullshit Norma case with the small flash hole didnt phase it one bit.

Did a quick 20 min tumble on about 3k worth of 9mm, then decap'd them all and then ran them thru the tumbler again for 1.5 hours with some dawn and lemi shine.

Sidenote, Ive had to switch over to a universal decapping die with a .057 decapping pin because Ive been running into a bunch of 9mm and 223/556 brass that have undersized flash holes, headstamps for 9mm are norma and ik 22, ik 21

Also have come across a decent amount of 9mm that the flash hole is not centered inside the primer pocket, so when I decap, the decap pin literally makes the hole almost obling or egg shaped. Have you dealt with this before?

And for the undersized flash holes, Is this something you guys have ran into? If so how have you handled it?

So now i decap them and swage them on my 750 then tumble them to get them nice and clean and get the primer pockets cleaned out. Then when it comes to actually loading them I just run my standard 9mm or 223 sizing/decapping die without the decapping pin to prevent the pin fron breaking on those undersized flas holes. The only alternative i have is to literally hand sort all the small flash hole cases out and that takes way too long. Its all just range brass pick up so that would be very time consuming. But im happy with this process for now. I will be adding a dillon rt 1500 electric trimmer for the 223/5.56 here in the future so i can decap, swage and trim all in one pass which should be a sweet setup. I like to do volume with the least amount of time while maintaining good quality so hopefully that setup works well!

Also just got me a double alpha magnetic powder check die, so I will be using that on my next run of 147gr Rn blue bullets and 135gr TC blue bullets that should be here tonight. Loading for an x5 legion for uspsa CO gonna load for 128-130 power factor.

@Hoser that new die looks great, you dont happen to have a 750 you could put that onto a toolhead and check the clearance with the powder measure do ya? It looks really tall and somewhat beefy. I wonder if it would work on my 750. Also what drive you running? A mark 7? Or a dillon?

Ive been holding out on gettin a dedicated 223 press cause ive been waiting FOREVER for the frankford arsenal x10, 10 station press for a true one pass capability for 223/556. Have you heard anything about that press? Ultimate reloader on youtube did a video on it like 2 months ago saying they were close to full production but we all know how that goes this day in age.

Loaded up some 300WM with 212 ELD-X and RL-26 in new Nosler brass for our upcoming elk hunt.

Hope my Son gets to bring home some fresh elk meat for his first year being old enough to have his own tag!

I decided to finally get around to annealing my .17 Fireball brass. I can't recall when I shot it all but there were around 400 rounds total. I have another 300 loaded and 400 fresh brass. I guess I will never run out.

I turned a bunch (~2,500 pcs) of small flash hole Norma 9mm brass into regular sized flash hole brass. Now it wont break decapping pins.
