    Your brass is picking up minute particles from your lube pad. Shitcan that thing and go with some form of spray lube, like dillon's or make your own.

    So it is just dirt scraping away at things. I have always just used my fingers and feel and never had anything like that. Of course I always have cleaned (walnut or corncob) then washed, then sized.

    Chances are good that you die is just fine. I've had brass smear just like that when I didn't use enough lube. Try using an awl or thin knife and try to scratch just the brass. If the brass comes off then split a dowel, use a bit of fine grain sandpaper and chuck it in a drill to smooth out the inside of the die. The sandpaper should remove the brass before doing much to the steel.

    Not exactly in my reloading room, but received an email from Dillon today. My carbide .223 dies I ordered the 2nd of May are in the mail.
