I think so; the Yahoo UV-5R group was very helpful and broke down what I needed to do. Manual repeater entry is a PITA on the UV-5R, but the CHIRP S/W seems easy enough to set up. Of course, I'm not quite sure what the best repeaters are - all I know is who operates them and where they are by city. I probably have about 50 entered of the 128 total slots available.

146.970 is still down sadly. Really wish PPFM could get it back up and operational. I'm not as familiar with Denver repeaters, and where you're at Singlestack, I don't know if you can hit repeaters here in the springs or not with a handheld. There is a 440 repeater in Monument, but I can barely hit it with my handheld here at home. I have a bunch programmed into my radios, but there's only a few I actually use. Some repeaters work better than others, and some have no traffic on them. If you decide to try the springs repeaters, let me know, I'll listen for you.
I thought the tests were easy. The electronics were all freshman electrical engineering (I'm one), so nothing more than a review for me. The antenna/bands stuff was new to me so I had to study that. I bought the Technician class ARRL study guide at Ham Radio Outlet, and read it front to back. Includes the entire 350 or so question pool. For general, all I did was take practice tests on eHam.com until I could regularly score 85% or better. The funny thing is I missed 2 questions on the tech exam - which I was better prepared for - but aced the general test. Took extra, and came up 2 answers short although I didn't study for it. The guys giving the test thought I could pass that with a little more study, but it really isn't very important to me. All of these tests can be passed by rote memorization, if you don't want to study the material. However, I think it is valuable to have a solid basic understanding to be able to problem solve if SHTF and other resources to help aren't available.

Is there any time constraints on the 24th, as in, church in the am, or evening, etc? If everone is ok, I'm thinking mid-day?
