    Cool Project 40X

I found a 40X finally! Haven't decided quite what I am going to do with it but here it is in all its glory!

If you're looking for suggestions, I say leave it "as is" and put some nice peep sights on it.

No, no, no, Ray. The correct answer is to sell it to me!

Nice find. If I ever find one, I'll put together a .22 trainer like Hoser's. AICS chassis, decent glass.

Planning on a stock swap, probably a manners T5, try out one of the new bushnell elites mil/mil, and she how she shoots. Then I'll decide to shorten the barrel or go aftermarket. I absolutely love the fact that this is a full size rifle and will probably let the savage go to fund new stuff. Probably never find decent ammo to try it out anyway!

Bruno Shooting Supplies had some decent target ammo left. As expected, their prices are a bit inflated but, if you need some .22LR right now, they got it.

The word "decent" was probably not the term I should have used... Truth be told, every rifle is different and some ammo that may perform very well in one rifle may not do so in a different one.

I have tried a whole bunch of different brands and models of .22LR ammo in my rifles and I have shot some good groups with Wolf MT, SK RM, Lapua Center X & Eley Match. I would say that for their price, all of these perform quite well. You can also spend a little bit more and get others like Eley Tenex but, for the type of shooting that I do, the less expensive ones have served me well.

I got real lucky with my 40X. It shoots Eley Blue EPS quite well.

I can put 60 shots (an International Prone Match) inside 1 centimeter at 50 yards.

I got even luckier when I bought two cases of it a few years back for $230 a case.

Mine shoots Eley Back and Red just as well. Another good flavor for my 40X and Sportsmans Team Challenge 10/22 is Eley Biathlon (not made anymore) and Lapua Polar Match.
