Default Gander Mountain -100 (mini rant)

so, I put one of the S&W Sigmas on layaway. fine, no problem.. they're selling lots of 'em.

they called last night and said mine was in... cool.. I'm looking forward to it.

went down there to get it this morning.

ended up not getting it due to GM corporate policy.....

Drivers license, issued in '97 no longer has my correct address on it (Colorado law has you write it on a sticker or some other mode if it's changed) GM said they wouldn't accept that.

Having my CCW permit, which is printed with my correct address wasn't valid for use (according to gm).. My ccw is not valid w/o my drivers license and I can't update the CCW address if I have not filed the change of address with the state.*

I could use a hunting / fishing license if it has the right address on it.. well my CDOW issued license has my POB on it, not my home. so that couldn't be used.

I've NEVER had a problem using my ID for a firearms purchase, EVER.. until I went to GM. WTF? NICS checks everything, do they not?

*A ccw which requires a background check more extensive than a nics check, not to mention a fingerprinting isn't good enough? and I'm trying to sneak one past someone? c'mon now!

GM did offer to sell me a fishing license to get a form with the correct address on it and refund the cost, but I already HAVE a combo hunt/fish license with a CID #.

I told 'em to give me my money back.. they just lost a customer based upon principal.

oh, I went directly to SW after that, I confirmed that SW would have NO problems selling me what I wanted (I've bought stuff there before with the SAME licesnse anyway). They had the sigma's, but they were $50 more but I was still torqued so I didn't buy anything.

gander mountain has lost me as a customer for life (like that other shop that shall not be named) They can also kiss my @ss. so can anyone else who can stand up to principal any more.. that's why half our country is a bunch of candyasses.

This reminds me of Hamonds music (?) on colfax in lakewood.. they won't let you return something unless you are in their customer database.. what kind of stupid crap is that.. I wasn't intending to bring something back, it's the pricipal that they would impose that requirement on their customers. I had a couple hundred dollars of crap to purchase.. I left it all there on the counter and walked out.. Sales guys followed me out the door trying to change my mind and saying they could work around this requirement.. no dice... principal of the matter.

I'm kind of surpised that it was more at SW. At least up here at these two, GM is always the higher price. Not surpised that GM would give You the run around though.

I'm looking to buy two new handguns. Glock 20 and Ruger SP101. Both are at least 50$ more at GM than SW.
Also heard a salesman at GM tell a guy looking for his first elk rife that 30-06 wasn't enough gun. go figure

Had the same thing happen at the Sports Authority close-out a year ago.

I put a bunch of stuff back, went and got a new DL, and completed the transaction.

Personally I dont see that as wrong...certainly it was an inconvenience to you, but I believe it is law that you need to have a proof of current residence...if your driver's license doesnt work, a utility bill or credit card statement showing your address and your name will suffice...

I had the exact same issue you have, updated address at DMV but they didn't give me a new physical copy, and Tom and Joe's, Gunsmoke, SW, Green Mountain Guns, and the defunct Gunworks of Colorado have all been perfectly OK. One of them wanted me to bring them something with the current address (vehicle registration worked just fine, as it happened) but none of them got stupid about dreaming up new rules.

Any word on whether Cabelas is this kind of stupid? (Or the opening date?)

Not to re hash old stuff, while I agree that GM prices go up and down more than a roller coaster. (thank the guy from 3 forks ranch who is a major stock holder and a moron when it comes to pricing) The stuff about the ID is NOT GM policy. It was directly out of the ATF manual, however that being said the CC permit is a government issued ID and should have been taken. That was just a moron employee not GM policy. I worked their selling guns for a few years, and I can tell you it was very interesting when the BATF sent their finest every year to tell us how they wanted the 4473 filled out. Anyone that takes a DL without current residency on it is looking for trouble when they get audited. If that form is picked out at random there will be fines. GM biggest problem is not paying the price to keep people around that actually understand guns and the paperwork. Tough to do when they offer 7 to 10 bucks an hour.

I've purchased from both SW and GM recently, and each time they were very clear that DL address needed to be current. They informed me of this BEFORE even starting the process, which was nice. Maybe that's where the dissatisfaction really lies is if someone doesn't set an expectation with you from the very beginning.

If I am not mistaken, if your DL is not current they have to call in rather than use the computer. At least that is what happened at Jensen's to me a while back. Anyway, I won't shop at GM because they do not allow CCW in the store.
