Recently we almost lost our shooting range at Minturn. Since it is on Forest Service land and due to serious neglect, the Forest Service was going to shut it down. Thanks to these three gentlemen,

we still have a place to shoot still. They organize the Minturn Shooters Association and we now do monthly cleaning of the area. The first one was a bear! Old TV's, refrigerators, a washing machine and a total of 17,000 pounds of trash were hauled out on that first clean up day.

Folks, if you want to keep your free shooting areas, keep them clean. The Forest Service is pretty easy going, and very easy to deal with. But they will only allow so much abuse to an area.

If you are interested in the Minturn Shooters Association, contact Matt Bayley at 949-8121. (We can always use more people at the monthly clean up!!) Additionally if you happen to live in Eagle Valley, he is one of the few people close that you can purchase a firearm through.

Other ranges in the area, Gypsum has a private firing range that is really nice. Annual fee there is $100.00. Unfortunately like all ranges around this area, it is strictly an outdoor facility. Leadville also has a private range, but haven't been able to get in touch with anyone there to join yet.
