Just picked up a Marlin XT 22TR (tube fed bolt action) for my boy. Holds 25 shorts, 19 Long, and 17 LR NO MAG!! Has the Marlin version of the acutrigger, was inexpensive and I hope to throw some lead range tomorrow for his first shoot!

Per some of the recommendations from this thread I picked up a Marlin 60 last week. I'm looking forward to getting out with my boy to take him on his first trip shooting...
I second the motion for the Marlin XT-22 TR. Didn't think I'd ever need another .22LR, then started pdogging and regularly come across fuzzys at 25-100 yards. The 17 capacity tube mag and reliable bolt action sold me, so I picked one up from Noah @Ark. Added a hunting sling, Weaver scope mounts and my Simmons 6.5-20x50mm, and it's ready to hit the plains!
Crawled out from under my rock.
MY FEEDBACK
The XT-22TR has benn fun and great out of the box. No sight adjustment using factory iron and my boy hits a golf ball on a string at 30 yds without issue. He picked it over the Henry Lever and neither of us regret it after about 300 rnds. I acturally prefer this over the Marlin 60 at times.
I'm looking to get the marlin 60 sometime soon, I love the idea of having a .22 that doesn't need mags.
I don't make the rules. I just think them up and write them down.
About the coolest .22RF to me is the Browning SA .22. Remington copied it in the model 24 and Interarms in the ATD. Other than those, the Marlin 60 is the winner.
Browning SA-22 I have had one for years, still my favorite to shoot.
If you have the chance and can find, a Remington fieldmaster is a blast to shoot. Pump action that takes 22lr or 22 short. I love taking that thing to the range.
