    Default New Snubby

Been interested in buying a Ruger SP101 for a long time and had all intentions of buying one today, but a Smith 686 2 inch followed me home. Smith was used and cheaper than the Ruger, better trigger, two more rounds. and not that much bigger overall. Hides very well with IWB holster. I hope this thing shoots as good as it feels. Anyone have any experince with a snubby 686?

I've had most all of them from 8 3/8", 6" 4" and the little 2.5" in either the 686(stainless) or the 586(blue); all except the 3" and none ported.
I have big paws and the square butt seems to fit me better than the round butt.

All of mine wire 1st or 2nd generation before the square extractors and the 7 shot cylinders.

They are true workers that seem to get better the more they are shot.
I've noticed they start to loose their timing somewhere around 10,000 rounds though most never see this use.

With the little ones like the 2.5" the blast from a full house 158 grain magnum load is kinda fierce. Personally my prefrence is a 4" for true heavy magnum loads.

You can always shoot 38 special +P+ to tame it down a bit.

I'm sure you will love you new smithy...
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Mine is a 2.5 inch barreled smith not a 2 like I said and yep the first box of ammo I bought for it is 125 JHP 38 special. It was a 35 dollar box of ammo. I need some reloading dies fast.

This is actually my second 686. The first one was stolen when our house was robbed 10 years ago. I never had enough time with it to shoot it much.

Took it to the range today and was very happy with it's performance. Trigger is very nice single and double action. It would keep a 3 inch 7 shot group at 15 yards with me shooting off hand and only one 38 load to shoot. It was fiocchi 38 special 125 gr xtp. It's non +P and there was no recoil to speak of.
Also it came with a Hogue Monogrip that feels great in my medium sized hand. Grips are thin and seem to hide well in a IWB holster. Might not offer much comfort for magnum loads, but I don't plan on a lot of those. Anyone know if these grips are factory?
