    Default Backpacking -vs- "car camping"

I used to do a lot of car-camping. Seems like less and less each year. I still have all my stuff though.

This is my 3rd year backpack hunting. Basically a buddy and drive to a wilderness-area trailhead and hike in. Then return to the car a week later with elk.

Surprisingly there's not nearly as much overlap between "car camping" equipment and backpacking equipment.

I keep sorting through the contents of my backpack and pulling stuff out. Don't REALLY need an extra knife. Or an extra flashlight. I can wear these socks twice. I don't need lunch on Monday. Trying to eliminate every little extra ounce.

It's kind of tough, because I'm used to thinking I need a backup and a spare for a lot of things. Two is one; one is none.

That's all I did for years. After wife and 2 kids, this is the only way I can camp now. I miss the good ol days.,

    As for elk hunting,

And it always gets lonely. Wanna go camping.

    THIS IS JUST A FUNNY!!!!!!

I KNOW I speak for all when I say "I hate you and your stupidly huge fifth-wheeler, tent-with-stove, Austin Powers-shadow-"salami"-thingy".

The only thing I can say in my defense is that I am set up to dry camp. Solar power and the unit carries 80 gal of propane and 50 gal of water.

Nice camper Jerry. I've just a 1976 POS (that's "piece of ....") camper that's just over 1/2 the size of you camper. The best I can say for it is that it has a warm bed, a Forced air gas heater, and a 4 burner stove.

I need to find a CHEAP solar system to use to recharge the battery each day. My buddy has one that cost him $800 and charges his battery about 75% - this is far too costly for me.
