You and the dow officer are mistaken there is no magazine limit for small game furbearers. You can hunt yotes with a 100 rnd beta c-mag if you want.

I personaly have two colt 10 rnd mags that I use for yotes and p-dogs. I like them because they don't stick very far out of the gun and make it better when useing a bi-pod.

Funny, was in a similar situation and asked a game warden several questions about hunting small game and magazine limits. He didn't have a clue. I drove 30 miles to a local DOW office and nobody in the building had a clue!!!! The agent at the counter picked up the game regs and started thumbing through it looking for the answer.

It happened to still be big game season in the area, so I think it confused them about what was legal. Anwho, just goes to show you that you had better know the laws, cause the warden may not, afterall they are human. I've been stopped by a warden every time that I've hunted (bird hunting and big game hunting), except first season last year, when I was in the field when the warden came through camp.

well thanks for the info everyone, thats definitly good to know. Do you know where it says anthing in writing? I see the warden just about everyday and i'd like to have a conversation with him about this. Or is it just that theres nothing in writing about a round limit??

There is nothing in the regs that prohibit the use of high cap mags for small game so it's legal.

If you notice the big game regs specificaly state no more than 6 rounds allowed includeing the chamber. The big game regs also state no fully automatic weapons.

Nothing in the small game regs mentions anything about either. You can legally hunt small game with a machinegun. I personaly would never hunt with my m16 I don't thinks it's ethical. I live by the one shot one kill method.

I do hunt with silencers and you can do so for small or big game. You should have seen the hour I spent on the phone getting transfered to 15 different people untill I got an older guy who could answer if it was legal or not. I looked through all the regs and could not find anything that prohibited the use of a suppressor. I just figured I would make sure that I didn't miss something and get myself in trouble.

The old man I finally got transfered to laughed and said in the 20 some years he has worked for dow nobody had ever asked that question. He told me there is nothing in the regs that prohibit it so therefore it is legal. He just told me to make sure I have my paper work with me in case they stop me.

You have to be careful...coyotes and Pheasants are both considered small game. But, Pheasants have a round limitation (3 for shotgun), and can only be taken with a shotgun, archery, or falconry! I wonder if there is a limit on the type of hawk I could use? ;-)
