    Default Senate voted

Wanted to update you on what JUST happened on the U.S. Senate floor. It just passed 68-31 the Harry Reid motion to proceed on S.649.

NAGR pushed pounded them to support the Paul-Lee-Cruz filibuster, but we were 8 votes short.

This was the stopgap for gun control.

The Senate is now going to charge forward with universal background check legislation (Manchin-Toomey backroom deal), an assault weapons ban, and a ban on “high capacity” magazines.

Of course, the NRA ignored this fight. They were 100% AWOL.

Damn sad that we had so many Republican "turn coats" on this one.

Here we go again... NRA this, NRA that... in the words of that random guy during the LA riots "Can't we all just get along." I'm seriously thinking about pulling all support for RMGO if my donations go to fighting the NRA instead of the democraps.

ETA: Dudley, instead of bashing the NRA, how about trying to get them on the same page as you and the NAGR slogan of "No compromises, we want victory"? I understand they betrayed and murdered your father (Star Wars humor), but that doesn't mean they can't be redeemed.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater, here: his point is well taken! Where WAS the NRA? And who are they really supporting? Looking at their actions (which will always tell you something), one can conclude that they're not exactly in our corner 100% of the time...

I got an email from the NRA over this and they said they don NOT support it and will downgrade the senators rating.

I agree, but instead of continuing to divide we should try and unite. By bashing and constantly talking trash it just further creates more resentment between orgs that should have a united front against the antis. The Dems are united against us, but we continue to bicker among ourselves, no wonder they're winning at almost every turn.

You bring two really good points worth rehashing, IMHO.
    1) This is what they did in the last election. Divide, divide, divide us. And conservatives/republicans/libertarians/whatever all went along with it. It worked.
    2) The dems have this "big tent" but within it are tons of natural divisions on various points they always seem to get past to unite and win. They sucker in high-earning single women or gays on reproductive stuff or gay marriage all the while ignoring how much they waste on entitlements (that those same women generally would not be for.) They love minorities, but minorities tend to be very much against gay marriage.

The dems get past BIG wedge issues within their "tent" but we divide over the smallest crap.

I received numerous e-mails, regarding this legislation. Didn't you, are you a NRA member? Holy schmoly look here's one of the numerous E-MAILS I RECEIVED FROM THE NRA!

    Dear Colorado NRA Member:

The U.S. Senate is currently scheduled to vote on several anti-gun bills during the week of April 8. One, the so-called "universal background check" bill being pushed by Senator Chuck Schumer, would criminalize the private transfer of firearms between law-abiding citizens. This legislation would make it illegal for a family member to transfer a firearm to another family member without the federal government’s approval. According to a recent Department of Justice memo, the effectiveness of a universal background check system "depends on gun registration" -- which is illegal under federal law. In addition, no background check system will ever be truly "universal", as criminals do not submit to background checks.

Please contact your Senators Udall and Bennet and encourage them to oppose this anti-freedom legislation. Ask them to support real solutions that will reduce violent crime and keep our children safe -- fixing our broken mental health system; securing our schools; and prosecuting violent criminals.
Again, please email, tweet, facebook, write, and call your Senators Udall and Bennet today, and ask them to OPPOSE Sen. Schumer's so-called “universal background check” legislation, along with every other anti-gun proposal -- including Sen. Feinstein's proposed ban on commonly owned firearms and magazines. The future of our Second Amendment rights are at stake.
    Contact Senator Mark Udall at:

    Washington, DC 20510
    Phone: (202) 224-5941

    @MarkUdall
    Contact Senator Michael Bennet at:
    458 Russell Senate Office Building
    Washington, DC 20510
    Phone: (202) 224-5852

I hope your intentions are in the right place, as they were in the past. HOWEVER i'm not seeing anything but divisiveness in anything you send out.

Did you miss this yesterday? NRA threatens to punish lawmakers on gun control vote despite deal

I'm sick of the RMGO spam for giveaways, pleas for money, and NRA bashing. I figured we needed all the help we could get with the local legislation and became a member this year. Never again.
