    Default 2-Way Radios

I've purchased a BUNCH of Motorola FRS radios over the years to keep tabs on the kids and give them a way of calling in when they are outdoors. Nearly all of them (the radios, that is) have ended up with problems of various sorts - certainly not reliable for anything more than casual use.

This year I am planning to use a couple/few radios with headsets while hunting so that we can communicate positions and insure safety. Does anyone have a strong recommendation for a brand and model of radio for this application?

Also, just to be sure - does the DOW rule prohibiting electronic aids possibly apply? Since we are merely trying to insure safe position of everyone, it would seem to not be a factor, but am interested in what y'all think. I may call DOW as well and if I do I'll report their answer.

Two way radios are not illegal to use while hunting in Colorado. Its not a bright idea to discuss illegal hunting acts on them of course. Many people think that the code squelch is an "encryption" but it isn't. Anyone with the code squelch turned off hears everything said in the channel.

you are at the mercy of the DOW officer when using 2 ways during a hunt, i would assume that the burden of proof would be on them to prove that you used it to illegally spot and target game, it seems that these days having them on for safety just makes too much sense.
