good to know since Im not 100% happy with the outcome I dont mind if I blow it apart lol as soon as I get the other plate I will remake it any way

Back in the early 80's, I had a 30-30 shooting really mildly loaded lead RN bullets. I don't know the muzzle velocity, but they were not fast. They went through 1/4" steel like it was cardboard. Screwed our pistol backstop up in a big hurry. One hit from a .308 is going to blow that stand right to bits.
I did some penetration testing with sections of steel I beam some years ago. My conclusion was that mild steel in thicknesses less than about 3/4" offered concealment, not cover, from rifle fire.
