That would be a brown colored Black Bear.
They would not be releasing Brown Bear into Colorado, they would release Grizzly Bear in CO.
Brown Bear is a member of the grizzly family found on the coast of AK and BC
Nice bear!

Nice bear!
Isn't that backwards?
I believe the species is brown bear and grizzly was a sub-species?
Browns historically were founds throughout northern Eurasia, US, Canada and down into Mexico. Human pressure pushed them into extreme areas away from the public.... which went primarily north.
There are many sub-species or browns like:
Kodiak
Grizzly
American Brown
Eurasian Brown
Kolyma River
Kamchatka
Atlas (extinct)
Gobi
Himalayan
Amur Brown
Marsican
Northern Caucus
Mexican (extinct)
Siberian
Tibetan Blue
Syrian Blue
Hokkaido
Bergmans (maybe extinct)

Back to the original post-
Is that just a brown colored balck? Cool bear!
I say lets all remove the warning labels and let nature take its course.
The way I saw the DOW's paper work is that they had three colors to choose from. They are all the Black Bear family-
They have the ability to be black, brown or cinnamon. Up hunting we did see all the colors. Which I was expecting to see more blacks than anything else. I saw more of the other colors.
I was shocked.
What kind of rifle did you use? Nice hunting!
Browning A bolt with the Boss. 338 Win Mag. Glass: Kahles 3-9x42
Thanks!

That is one sweet looking bear. I have some friends and part-time hunting partners that were out bow hunting around Gunnison last week. I'm told that one of them harvested a bear that (I'm told) was around 400 lbs - that's huge for a CO black bear. I haven't seen any pics yet but I'll share them with the whole class if they ever come through.
Keep us updated on what the DOW sends on about your bear. They usually send out a decent report with everything they know about specific bears.
