    These would have been an attractive alternative to an Optimus in terms of weight.

    I am guessing you are talking about the svea stoves. If so, yes they are much lighter and much more compact another added benefit to top it off is you do not have the loud hiss other stoves make.

    Actually, I was thinking about the Optimus 111's, which were crammed into the bottom of most people's packs 30-40 years ago. Any one of them would have liked to have shaved a few ounces off of those boat anchors! Granted, I suspect a great many of those are still quite functional today, long after their original owners have sprouted grandchildren.

    OK much much lighter and much much more compact. Looks like the svea and the 111 use the same burner for the most part, wonder what made the 111 popular. Maybe the good ol American idea at the time of "bigger is better"?
