^^^ This, found that out the hard way, only one I was ever behind when I built my first rifle was an AI and while it's a great chassis, it isn't exactly the one for me and ended up swapping out for an XLR.

That said, the XLR's are for the most part going to feel the same with the exception of one major thing, on the carbon and the evolution, your scope height is going to be higher, it has to be to clear the fore end tube. That scope height really only makes a difference in that the higher the scope is, the more effect canting the rifle from level will have. It's not huge, and it's not going to make or break the rifle, but it's something you should consider.

That said, I have 2 XLR Carbons and one Element and I like them all. The tube on the carbon is handy in some match situations (PRS weird positional stuff), but in all honesty, I'm strongly considering swapping my 2 Carbons out to Elements as I find the element is easier to shoot off from a barricade due to the flat bottom out front, The jury is still out on it though.

Biggest thing I can give you for advice is to go to one of the local matches, and get behind some rifles, most guys are more than happy to let you check their rifles out, hell we're all into guns and we like to show them off. You might find an XLR does or doesn't work well for you, you might find you like a more traditional stock better, or an AI, McRee, MPA, or something else.

Absolutely this... I personally have not found a chassis I like. I've tried the XLR stuff, AICS, JAE, etc. I settled on a Grayboe Renegade from Gunstox.com, which happens to be based in Bailey, CO. It is an exact copy of the Mcmillan A5, except injection molded fiberglass, and costs $349 shipped. Only available for Rem700 short and long actions right now, but they're working on Savage and Tikka models as well.
