Just finished watching The Cloverfield Paradox

Very cool sci-fi thriller movie, and actually connected to the first movie, unlike 10 Cloverfield Lane.

I heard it's getting terrible reviews. What's your take on why you liked it and reviewers apparently don't?

Does one need to watch Cloverfield prior to watching this. Or can one watch it w/out being lost?

Reviewers never seem to like the Cloverfield movies. Or JJ Abrams movies in general. This one was a bit more formulaic than the other two, but still really delivered, in my opinion. Some of the scenes that help the movie overall don't help the tension or mood they are trying to set in the primary story, which hurts it a bit.

If you've seen the first Cloverfield, there are a few scenes that have a similar mood and there is a payoff at the end. If you haven't seen it, those parts seem a bit more horror film and while they still add to the dread, it won't have the same level of resonance with the viewer.

Sorry I thought it was garbage. Luckily it was on Netflix so I didn't have to pay to see it in a theatre.
