One thing i really like about the Bighorn and other vendors is that I can use the savage thread vs remmy thread. I have all the tools for the savage, but none for the remmy. The only other requirement for barrel thread would be the machined in recoil lug. I know the APR doesn't have it, but I think the solid 1 piece receiver/lug makes a huge difference. IE, one less thing I have to screw around with...

One thing to keep in mind with either the Impact or the Lone Peak, is that they both have timed threads and EXTREMELY consistent tolerances. This makes it so that gunsmiths that run CNC's or even that know what they are dealing with, have readily available pre-fit barrels for them. Simply put it in a barrel vice, grab your action wrench and spin the old one off and the new one on. I haven't sent an action to my smith in 3 years.

You can get barrels for both from TS Customs, or for the Impact directly from Impact/Stuteville. All turned from premium quality blanks like Bartlein, Benchmark, etc. Other smiths are starting to do them as well.

This saves you from having to deal with a having to have a proper headspace gauge for each cartridge.
