Yup. You've met "offgrid", a newer shooter at the PD matches. We've been trying to meet out there for six weeks. Can't get our schedules coordinated. If you like, I'll let you know when we get it dialed. He and I are shooting for a Wednesday, but if you wanted to make a day of it on a weekend, I'd be up for that, too.

the ones i am aware of mostly are private clubs and so forth!
CRC (Colorado rifle club) 1000 in breyers very nice has Pits i shoot there often! in the summer
BCGC Buffalo Creek Gun Club up in bailey used to be an old army range up to 600 yards it is owned by the national forest service but leased out to that club also has pits.
wyoming has a few i know one club has a range with pits up to 600 yards+
also have herd the base up there has hosted matches and clinics before!
those are just the ones i can say i been too!
Don't forget the NRA Whittington Shooting Range down at Raton, NM.
It is only about a half hour drive for some of us lucky folks.
But you know what... you came out and tried it. Good on you. As you witnessed it was low threat. The local shooting community are a great bunch of folkes. Next time you can make it I will help you out as best I can. Shoot me a pm with what you are shooting and maybe we can work up a drop sheet. If you can make it early enough we can confirm on the 325 berm ( no shooting on the 425 on match day).
Let me know
"Old Dude"
aka Dino
will work for:
bullets primers & brass
XTR II 4 x 20 SCR
XTR II 5x25 SCR
XTR II 3x15 SCR
XTR III 5.5x30 SCR
Hawkins Precision
Rgr that, yes Sir. I'd love to come again and I will eventually, just need to gather some more time and money... Time usually being the biggest culprit. I don't think it would make much sense to fill out a drop sheet when I just shoot the cheapest thing I can find at Wall-Natsy or whatever store I happen to drop by. That's why I'd like to get it into someone's hands who knows what they are doing for a week or two and let them test different loads, see groupings, etc. I just don't have the time for it. Seems like I've been "on call" every weekend for the past several months.... grrrr.
Not only will it be difficult to find someone willing to sort out your rifle for you (it's a lot of work, and a lot to ask), but it's probably counterproductive to your development as a shooter anyway. I have a wealthy friend who does exactly that, and as a result he doesn't know his gear, his ammo, or his dope. He shoots poorly.
A much better plan would be to get with any of the more experienced shooters here and spend a few hours together. Let one of them help you through the process, but be a part of the process. I know I've volunteered to help you in the past, and I'm sure there are 10 other more qualified guys here who would do the same. It will be for the best in the long run.
