I thought I'd include a pic (of the yote skin, not my feet) so you'd see it isn't quite as barberic as it sounds.

Well, we’re happy to have you here. I plan to use a Ruger M77 MkII (.223 Rem, Bolt) or maybe even a Model 77/22 (22LR ~ with subsonic 22LR rounds, or my 22 Hornet version, both Bolt).

A 160-170 Lb St. Bernard (not your typical Saint, he was very dominant- more like a Mastiff, he'd hear them yip, his ears would perk up, and he'd take off running... a few minutes later, you'd hear a frantic "yipe, yipe, yipe"

he has passed, and the coyotes are getting ever closer- have lost some cats, so now I'm considering resuming the work he once did...

If you want some help with that, lemme know.

FWIW, from what I read a .22LR is a tad light but would get the job done in close range, a .223 or 22-250 is durn near ideal, and a .308 might tear up the hide but could be just fine with the right bullet.

    Run what you brung.

Doesn't sound barbaric to me at all. 'Twould look FINE on my coffee table. A nice counterpoint to the bull elk hide on the wall with the elk-in-snow pastel hanging on the hide, that my wife got me for a birthday.

(the picture, not the elk hide. I got that myself. LOL)

I have a great dog that has taken care of a few. I woke up one morning to the sounds of a "scuffle". I thought maybe the nieghbors dog had wandered onto the property. As I got closer I found my dog (APBT) tearing into a couple coyotes. When they saw me both yotes took off as best they could. They were pretty mangled though. Looked like my dog had crushed ones leg. +1 for good dogs.

I've seen some speculating that .17 HMR or .22 WMR would do the job... (the .22LR is too low power, IMHO)
the .223 is a great choice... but I don't own one (yet)... so the 7.62x39 would have to do... but I'd have to call them in closer..

I would think that would reach just fine.

Just wondering if this thread will actually lead to a hunt! Seems like there is interest, just need a rancher with a problem to solve. When I get time I might wander down south of town but that may be a bit. Work is swamping me. (Grateful for that...)
