If engraving a 1095 blade such as an ESEE, give some thought to coating that engraved area, even with something clear. Some steels, while making for great knife blades, can rust very quickly if not looked after regularly.

Sally Hansen "Tough As Nails" -from your local Target. It comes in clear and is quite durable if allowed to dry properly. I use it for various fishing applications and it holds up well to saltwater which is about has harsh as anything.
