Reading the regs is better than calling to ask. He is fine. No where do the regs prohibit detachable mags.

you are correct that detachable mags are not prohibited, and I wasn't saying that they where. What I'm trying to say is that detachable mags like the Badger ordinance and ones similar are generally found on semi-auto rifles not bolt guns so a higher capacity detachable mag could be a grey area if you were to get approached by the wrong guy. Yes the regs specify semi-auto, but that was also wrote before the surge of the more modern tactical style rifles being used today. We all know that laws and regs can always be interpreted in different ways by different people, so would hurt to error on the side of caution and call and talk to somebody.

Yeah. I get what you are saying. But after I started dealing with the ATF on a semi regular basis I've decided for myself that calling about laws and rules is seldom fruitful. Ive literally called twice within an hour and gotten two completely different answers. Plus no proof I got that answer if a third agent were to ever take exception with what I was doing.
I just don't trust calling any more. Is rather read the regs, and be able to pull them out and show a game warden exactly what they say rather than tell him that someone at the Broadway office on the phone said it was OK.

Thanks J,
After reading the regs and seeing what you guys posted (literally from the regs verbatim), it is a lot more simple than I thought. It's almost like there are fewer restrictions than people make out. So basically I should follow what it says and if something isn't said don't over think it.
