Silver isn't toxic, it's the best and safest germkiller there is. Silver disables the enzyme that single-celled organisms use to metabolize oxygen, so they "suffocate". Kills germs, bacteria, mold, viruses, etc.

Do some research on silver, it's actually a pretty bizarre metal. Best reflector of light (mirrors), best conductor of electricity, best coating for bearings, best germkiller, etc. Used in medical, industrial, electrical, etc. Actually better than gold. It's pretty intense what all it's used for.
