Who cares, CPW only exists to milk out of state revenue.

XJ, it seems you bring this up with any post on hunting. Has an out of state friend or family member had an issue with buying a license here? So far as I know, non resident elk licenses are far more expensive in every other state than in Colorado. While I'm no fan of CPW management under the Polis administration, the agency still needs non resident dollars. Pressure from resident hunters has rightly moved the needle to favor residents in the apportionment of licenses, but the cost for non residents remains relatively low. Only in Colorado can a non resident hunt elk every year.

As a noob, I went through the process. Went to the local class and learned about herd count and success rate. Put in for a tag, pfft.

    Next year. Pfft.

    Rinse & repeat. Pfft.

Went to the CPW office and stood in line for a sloppy-second tag, and the kind officer said "don't bother" because there was nothing but pumpkin patch

    Probably the GMU you're picking.

I've never failed to draw 1st round or secondary as appropriate in 10+ years of going.

This year might be a skip year as I've a low chance of drawing for Muzzle in the GMU I applied, and the 3rd rifle guys are taking the year off for various reasons.

Sometimes it's as much about knowing how to work the draw choices and the GMU's you choose as it is tags issued.

If you get skunked on everything else, you can almost always get an OTC bull tag.
