    So does the bleach just keep the water clean, or does it help diffuse the sunlight as well?

    From what I could gather, the bleach helps diffuse the light as well.

    That's a pretty smart idea. Good find.

    They were shown putting some kind of sealant on. That said, it's only good when the sun is out, so rain darkening the horizon and nighttime are two obvious scenarios showing it's not in any way reliable.

    you also have to consider that we are talking about a very poor country.
    I Send the in-laws $100 and they think I am wealthy.
    They just got electricity TO their house this year.
    Their electricity bill is ~500 php a month (~$11.50 USD)

    a couple can retire there in lavish comfort for about $300 a month
