It is going to get interesting that winter is coming and food stamps may not get issued. I wonder if those less fortunate have to move south just to stay alive. If it wasn't for the cartels, I'd move to Mexico and live on the beach. Colorado is so high maintenance, minus 20 in the winter to 100 plus degrees in the summer.

No leftist gives a shit and will actually celebrate someone moving away with whom they disagree.

If he wants to move, good for him. I hope it works out great for him.

It's guy moving his family for greener pastures, not a heroic act of freedom.
Your original post came off as derisive and disparaging even though you're trying to claim otherwise.

Kinda surprised you are foolish enough to complain about backlash.

You should probably just stop. When reading your first post and then this one, it comes across as very disingenuous and even worse than your first. It's not a good look.

Wish I could convince the wife to move to Idaho. Lived there for a brief stint and would go back in a heartbeat. Good luck on the move. It really sucks to be pushed out of the the once great state of Colorado.

Default Fed Rates Will Drop According to This Guy

The panhandle of Idaho where the OP is moving is predicted to grow. Major metro areas of Colorado are predicted to shrink in value. I still prefer the warmth of the southeast and ocean access.

    Dang, you guys are depressing!

There's still a lot to love about Colorado.

I absolutely despise humidity, but I love having 4 seasons and mountains. I also am a glutton for high-quality food and services, so living out in the boonies isn't going to do it for me. Of course having several kids in grade school and then probably in-state college will likely keep us here anyway for the time being.

Cha-lee, congrats on the major life decision - I really hope you enjoy it up there! I've only heard good things about Idaho.

Not everything is all bad in Colorado. As HB stated above. But also, factor elder-age care in personal circumstances when planning moves. Not adovacating any one way, just plan on getting old.

If you are medicaid eligible, PACE is a good program that would let you age-in-home and not wind up in a nursing home: https://www.npaonline.org/find-a-pace-program

Also depending on your financial state, compare bankruptcy exemptions in your current and future state. The reason why is these are blanket protections, if you get sued in a personal injury case, that is your assets that are safe (even without ever filing BK). If you incur 500k in medical debt, that is your blanket (even without filing BK). And guess what, medical debt accounts for a crazy proportion of bankruptciies and other issues especially with elders.

Colorado is something like 300,000 in homestead equity that is exempt. That means you stay in your home even when cancer treatment backs up your finances by a quarter million, so long as your equity isn't > say 350,000.

Other states have as low as like 40,000 in homestead equity. If you get very ill there, if your finances can't handle it, you will, most likely, lose your house. Hopefully, you're OK with renting if that bridge is crossed, and can afford it.

Another consideration, consider medicaid inheritance rules and practices. If you end up on medicaid for any reason, does your state put a lien on your assets to repay that in probate? Does it pursue it by action? Can your heirs skirt it any way?

Move based on the big picture of why everything works for you or doesn't work for you. Neighborhoods aren't segregated by politics and ordinarily you can happily live next to a liberal. They can just as readily move right next to you out in the sticks, too. Moving somewhere and risking homelessness at age 78, maybe is something to also factor on the radar. I'd almost say more than politics, plan on getting old. Not advocating any one place, just advocating for a long term outlook.

If you're still working, also look at property tax vs sales tax vs income tax.

Except for alot of Liberals, well lets call them by the correct term- Socialists- you can't.

The local Socialist across from me always suspected me as being Conservative but I didn't make any overt signs.
Another Neighbor 3 houses down, did and he paid the price.
He posted Trump election signs and she LOST it, posting all over social media- "outing him," the signs got torn down, suddenly his business got all sorts of bad reviews etc.
We ended up having to return the favor before she relented.
We all get along, except her.
We all help each other, except her.
We all respect one another, except her.
But then she has TDS and makes it impossible to deal with her.

    PS:
Fox, I have to be honest and respectful to you.
Your comments are EXACTLY why the Democratic party are held in such distain and why this state is circling the drain.
Fear mongering isn't leadership. And creating "solutions" to problems that you created is insulting and only ignorant people would accept that as productive.
I wouldn't have to worry about bankruptcy if I wasn't being TAXED TO DEATH here.
I wouldn't have to worry about health care if the system wasn't being destroyed by our "new citizens" dragging it down.
I wouldn't have to worry about jobs and wages if the State wasn't arbitrarily driving industries they dont like away.
I would love to live in peace with my neighbors, and for the most part do, but not the ones who hate me, want me dead, talk endless shit about me and are happy if not excited when my leaders are murdered.

    Go Vote, it's election day!
